Empowering Future Leaders: Highlights from Our June 2024 Holiday School Programme

Holiday School

The Tomorrow Trust is thrilled to announce the successful completion of our June Holiday School, which took place across Gauteng, Western Cape, and Limpopo for both our Junior and Senior learners. Spanning two insightful weeks, the program wrapped up at the end of June, leaving a significant impact on all participants.

The Holiday School was packed with a variety of activities aimed at fostering both academic and personal growth among our learners. Key highlights included:

  • Academic Learning and Support: Tailored sessions to help students excel in their studies.
  • STEAM Competition: Engaging activities focused on Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, and Mathematics, designed to ignite curiosity and innovation.
  • Reading Support: Programs to enhance literacy and foster a love for reading.
  • Fun Days: Recreational activities that provided a balanced mix of fun and learning.
  • Sci-Bono Visits: Educational trips to Sci-Bono Discovery Centre, offering hands-on experiences in science and technology.

The success of our Holiday School was further amplified by the invaluable contributions of volunteers from SAGE, Euromonitor International, and BDO South Africa. These dedicated individuals donated their time and expertise, creating a supportive and enriching environment for our learners. Their involvement was not just beneficial but truly meaningful, offering our students the chance to interact with role models and professionals who are committed to making a difference.

At The Tomorrow Trust, our mission is to provide holistic education and support to orphaned and vulnerable children, ensuring they reach their full potential. The June Holiday School is a testament to this mission, designed with the following strategic intentions:

  1. Enhancing Academic Performance: By offering additional academic support during the holidays, we aim to bridge learning gaps and reinforce classroom teachings, ensuring our learners stay on track.
  2. Fostering Innovation and Critical Thinking: The STEAM competition and related activities are crafted to nurture problem-solving skills, creativity, and a passion for the sciences, preparing students for future careers in these fields.
  3. Promoting Literacy: Reading support initiatives are crucial for improving literacy rates, which are foundational to all areas of education and personal development.
  4. Building Community and Support Networks: The involvement of corporate volunteers fosters a sense of community and provides our learners with mentorship opportunities, showing them the power of giving back and the importance of professional networks.
  5. Holistic Development: Fun days and educational trips ensure that learning is enjoyable and multi-faceted, addressing the emotional and social aspects of our learners’ growth.

The Tomorrow Trust remains committed to empowering the next generation through education and support. Our June Holiday School is just one of the many initiatives we undertake to make a lasting difference in the lives of our learners. We extend our heartfelt gratitude to all our volunteers and supporters who make these programmes possible. Together, we are building a brighter future for all.
