Levi’s Strauss Community Day in Cape Town

16 May Levi’s Strauss Community Day in Cape Town

Each year the Levi Strauss & Company hosts a day of giving back, known as Community Day. On this day, employees get to volunteer with local organizations in the communities where they live and work. This year, on the 15th of May, Levis Strauss partnered with us, the Tomorrow Trust,  to host 80 of their volunteers and 80 learners at one of Tomorrow Trust partnering school, Mseki Primary School in Gugulethu, Western Cape.

We arranged and facilitated a fun-filled day focusing on our beautiful planet, becoming heroes within our communities and facing fears.  The day started with Levi’s team being welcomed by the school learners with song and dance and they then were given an insight into what will be happening throughout the day.  Each volunteer then got paired with a learner for the day activities and adventures.

The activities kicked off with story reading from Freeing Freddie reader.  Then from the story, learners started with “My Tomorrow” activity, where learners wrote/drew and created their aspirations for their perfect “tomorrow”. Then we moved on to another lovely activity, where volunteers helped learners create brave masks as part of the facing and releasing fears activity, using the Freeing Freddie activity book. It was so much fun to see learners and volunteers enjoying the activities and taking so much from it.

Tomorrow Trust partnered with “With Love From Freddie” who provided the learning material, Freeing Freddie – The Dream Weaver and Freeing Freddie Activity book where the activities were taken from. Each child was gifted with the reader and the activity book that has over 100 stickers to take home.

Tomorrow Trust is honored to receive $6000 gift from Levi’s Strauss Foundation. This gift will go towards funding the unsponsored learners from Mseki Primary School participating at our Junior Holiday School Programme. A special thank you to all the volunteers who spent the day with us, Mr. Marubela, the principal from Mseki Primary School as well as Levis Strauss Foundation.

“Giving back never goes out of style.”- Levis Stauss & Co.
