ride Joburg

Ride Joburg is more than just a cycling event it’s a movement with purpose.

The Virgin Active 947 Ride Joburg is Johannesburg’s ultimate celebration on two wheels. As the second-largest timed cycle race in the world, following the Cape Argus Cycle Race, it brings together over 20,000 cyclists each year for a powerful display of endurance, community and purpose.

The iconic 97km route begins at FNB Stadium, leading riders through key areas of the city including Randburg, Fourways, and Sandton before finishing back at the stadium. The event transforms the streets into a high-energy track, showcasing the vibrancy of Joburg in a way that few experiences can match.

For those looking for a more accessible challenge, the 35km route offers a shorter, equally rewarding ride — perfect for casual cyclists, families and newcomers eager to be part of the experience.

More than just a race, Ride Joburg is a platform for impact. Many cyclists ride under charity banners such as Tomorrow Trust, supporting causes ranging from rare diseases and education to child welfare and local non-profit work. These charity teams enjoy exclusive benefits such as early start times, branded cycling kits and post-race hospitality.

A standout on South Africa’s sporting calendar, 947 Ride Joburg blends athleticism, community spirit, and social impact into one unforgettable event.

Join us on this special day as we work together to build a South Africa that is great for everyone.

Tomorrow trust ride joburg campaign

Ride joburg with tomorrow trust

In 2024, Tomorrow Trust proudly participated in its very first Virgin Active 947 Ride Joburg, giving cyclists the opportunity to ride under the Tomorrow Trust banner, and what a remarkable campaign it was.

This initiative was launched to raise vital funds in support of our mission of unlocking South Africa’s best tomorrow through holistic education today. And thanks to the incredible support of our community, it delivered beyond expectations.

A total of 78 cyclists took part in support of our cause, including individuals, corporate teams, and valued partners such as, Mimecast, Ory X, Takecare Clinic, Monocle, Linksfield Oncology, Doctors Nay and Piccolo Incorporated.

Through entry sign-ups, we were able to raise R195,000, while additional donations contributed a further R21,981 — bringing our total funds raised to R216,981.

This campaign not only strengthened our efforts in changing the lives of orphaned and vulnerable children through education, but it also brought together a passionate community committed to making a lasting impact.
