For nearly 20 years, The Tomorrow Trust has been addressing the profound educational disparities that continue to hinder the nation’s progress. Founded in 2005, the organisation is dedicated to bridging the educational divide by providing orphaned and vulnerable children with holistic supplementary education and comprehensive bursaries, empowering them to become positive contributors to society and the economy.
South Africa’s education system faces significant challenges, including crumbling infrastructure, overcrowded classrooms, and relatively poor educational outcomes, which perpetuate inequality and fail many children, especially the poor.
Despite government efforts, educational quality remains uneven, particularly in underprivileged areas.
The Tomorrow Trust confronts these challenges head-on by offering programmes that not only enhance academic performance but also provide psychosocial support, ensuring that learners are well-equipped to overcome personal and systemic obstacles. This comprehensive approach is vital in a country where, according to Statistics South Africa, only 35.4% of individuals aged 25 years and older had completed secondary education as of 2022.
Over the past 19 years, The Tomorrow Trust has established itself as a credible and far-reaching organisation. To date, it boasts over 1,700 alumni from its programmes and has positively impacted more than 10,000 families through its initiatives. Since 2022, The Tomorrow Trust has experienced a 34% growth in programme beneficiaries. In 2024, it expanded to the Limpopo region, introducing its Holiday and Saturday School Programme to a cohort of Grade 10 learners.
“I have personally been invested in Tomorrow Trust for the last 15 years, and when I reflect on our journey, I am proud of our consistent delivery and the continuous improvement of outcomes for children and youth. We have remained steadfast in our mission to reach more deserving children, growing the organisation by 34% since 2022. As we approach our 20th anniversary, we are excited about the future. Tomorrow Trust stands as an organisation that is transparent, credible, and focused on fulfilling our mandate. We have a deep belief in a South Africa of tomorrow, where all its citizens have equal opportunities and access,” shares Taryn Rae, CEO at The Tomorrow Trust.
The Tomorrow Trust remains steadfast in its mission to positively impact the lives of vulnerable youth. By rallying the necessary support, the organisation aims to expand its educational interventions, confident that in the coming years, it will make an even more significant mark in bridging South Africa’s educational divide.
